Customer Own Material (COM) allows clients to supply their own custom upholstery material, bypassing manufacturer limitations. Customers source, purchase, and ship the material directly to the factory, allowing for unique, personalized, or designer-matched finishes.
- Process: We calculate the required yardage, also listed in product specifications, and the customer handles purchasing and shipping, often with an added fee for using non-standard, externally sourced fabric.
- Suitability: Fabrics must be approved by the upholsterer for stability, and some materials (like silks or heavily patterned fabrics) may require, or be unsuited for, specific applications.
- Risks: The customer assumes responsibility for the suitability of the fabric, shipping costs, and potential delays.
- Efficiency: While allowing high customization, using COM can sometimes increase project lead times and costs compared to using in-house, pre-approved fabrics.
- Excess Material: Manufacturers typically do not return excess material and may discard it after a set period.
